The title is very important in
Their Eyes Were Watching God. The reason why is because in the end, all of the people view God as the superior being in the novel. This can be showed by how people called God the "Ole' Massa" and how when they needed to turn to a major answer, such as whether they were going to live or perish, they turned to God, not to humanity. The reason why they might be watching for God, is so that way they could see a little bit of good in a situation, that the characters in the story would look to a bright, and optimistic future, since God is seen as in the heavens, and heaven is supposedly a wonderful place. That is how the title of the story is significant to the characters.
